The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach. The following highlights the many benefits you will receive if you create goals and stick to them. First and foremost, goals give you a direction and destination. They give you something to aim for and direct your efforts towards. They help guide you to where you ultimately want to be in life.
Setting lifetime goals is like choosing the destination you ultimately what to reach. Therefore, instead of wandering through life, you are able to determine where you want to go. Your goals give you a clear focus on what you believe to be important in life. Therefore, it is essential when setting your personal goals, you first think about what is important to you and what you really want to accomplish in life.
If you take the time to truly reflect on your hopes and dreams, your goals will center on what is important to you. You then will systematically and consciously focus your attention on what is important to you. If you do not set well thought out goals, you tend to spend your time doing things that are not important to you. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them. As we mentioned, goal setting helps you focus on what is important to you, what you want to accomplish, and where you want to be in the future.
This perspective helps in decision making. If you know where you want to go, you are in a better position to makes decision that may affect your direction in life. You are able to make a better decisions on how you want to proceed if you know what is important to you and what you ultimately want to accomplish. I can personally attest to its importance in my own professional life, and I simply cannot overstate the fact that it always has been and remains one of the first steps you will take in your journey toward finding your true calling and unparalleled success.
I think it explains the importance extremely well, but to delve deeper into the topic and further explain the reason why I personally believe goal setting to be of paramount importance when attempting to achieve success. Without a goal , your efforts can become disjointed and often confusing. For example, a goal takes the flight of a hummingbird, which is chaotic and erratic and focuses it much like a hawk swooping down for its prey. Being able to keep track of your progress toward achieving a goal is only possible if you set one in the first place.
Being able to measure progress is extremely rewarding and will help you maintain focus, keep your head held high and your energy up. It will also keep you from getting down.
However, when you measure progress while working towards a specific goal, you will be able to see that though you might not be where you are wanting to get, you have made movements in the right direction and are a lot better off than where you started. If they have to get in shape for say an NFL combine, you better believe they are going to be working out each and every day, whether they feel good or not, whether they are sore or not, whether they are tired or not, whether they want to or not, because they have a goal.
